If you are looking for fossils or dinosaur bones, go to the museums. They are not here on display anymore. Quite remote, about an hour's drive from the highway amid a network of gravel roads, and very few bones to see inside one small building, some of which were replicas and some in bad condition (broken plastic, foam showing). Trails in the hot sun show the hiker only the land. Small gnats would be a constant nuisance if not for the wind.
The facilities are nicely kept. Maybe two fossils are real, most are fake and some are broken to make it obvious. With all of the tax dollars used to build and maintain this facility and there is still a $5.00 fee for anyone over age 16. The trails are okay with only one fossil to be seen.
Ask if a volunteer is available for a tour! They can take you on a nearby walk and point out geology and bones. Afterwards or before, the quarry in the covered buildings is amazing.
Spent a summer working here. Love this place and the visitors center is one of the nicest in the BLM.
Fun little side trip with the kids. There are a couple of hikes you can do with the kids so bring water.
